Christmas is coming and I can have 5 days off taking only one day of leave. I think I’ll make a trip to Bangkok. My idea is to go there by AirAsia and come back over land. Even more trips are coming up. In the end of January I have another week off and I might make a trip to Bali(again), I am not entirely sure what to do… Any suggestions are welcome Also in the beginning of January I might go to China for a few days but I fear that will not go through since I had some difficulties getting a visa for this trip.

Last weekend we had a company trip and we went to play paintball. This is really exhausting but really lots of fun to do. Also a good opportunity to talk with some people I hardly spoke to.

Life here is still relaxing and without worry. In the morning I still wake up late, go to the office grabbing a delicious Roti Capati on the way as breakfast. When I come home it is often 11pm+ but this doesn’t bother me at this moment.

I gave away my pocket camera so don’t expect any photo’s of things I’ve done. But I’ll try to get a new camera and then I’ll snap some shots for you all

All though I only had a couple of days in Bali I wasn’t busy doing trips and seeing cultural things. I spend my time enjoying the nightlife. During the day we also celebrated doing nothing and Eric was always there to support me with doing nothing. Alfred, Sammy and Shanti did go see some cultural things and enjoy the beautifull Bali sunset but I just enjoyed the beautifull Bali Bintang(means star in Bahasa) which is the biggest Indonesian beer brand.

My air carrier was Airasia and I was surprised how ok it was. It sure isn’t as good as some people make you want to believe but it isn’t bad. They just bring you from one location to the other and you have to pay for all the things on flight. But come on, it’s only a three hour flight! There were people eating, drinking and complaining about the prices and I was just sitting there reading my book and having a meal four times as cheap and many times better, on the ground… In flight food is only good with the really expensive airlines anyway.

That there is not a lot of activity, is not entirely true. On November 27 I’ll go to Bali for the weekend and meet up with Erotic Eric, Awesome Alfred and Sexy Sammy. This is something I’m really looking forward to.

Next month in Singapore is Siggraph Asia which I plan on visiting. But for now I’ll just keep playing computer games. Currently I am playing Red Alert 3 which I bought two weeks ago. It was the first game I bought this year and my expectations were high! My disappointment was also that… Why do they keep reinventing themselfs when they had it exactly right, the first time.

It has been a long time already and I promised (Again or didn´t I) to update more� at least post more stuff and stuff so please bare with me while I am trying to to do/begin that now.

This morning when I visited my blog I saw SPAM. So I directly removed these bothersome messages and implemented some anti spam measures. Next to that I noticed people leaving messages in older posts. So I also added a fix that makes it impossible to reply on posts older then 45 days.

As I am about to leave Bali for Singapore, Malaysia and finally The Netherlands there are some things to finish up. For Singapore I made reservations in Hostel. This time was the first time I really needed a credit card for myself. I wanted to book a spot in Hangout Hotel but somehow they only accept credit cards for payment. So the next best option was with the same name as a good friend of mine (except the sam´s part) Sleepy Sam´s. I am really looking forward to Singapore and Malaysia. Of course when I am in Singapore I will have to make reservations for my place to stay in Malaysia where I would have to make reservations for my stay in The Netherlands. Also I will ship some stuff. In half a year people can gather a lot of junk. Too bad I can´t ship my Japanese Tiger. But that is probably because they are endangered�

What am I doing now here is basically waiting for me to move on. I am working on My school project but progress is somehow very slow. I have been reading a lot. One of the last books I read is “Blink” by Malcolm Gladwell. Probably when you first entered this site you knew if it was going to be good or not. Within a first few seconds you would have an opinion about this site. Your judgment can differ but will that view turn out to be correct? The book Blink is all about this first impression. It is a very easy to read and understand book. The author made it very fun and light to read with lots of good examples. If you have first impression wisdom that is often correct or you say you have good people judgment than this book could be interesting for you.

After seeing some photoshopped images off my not so sleepy friend on friendster. I decided I would also give it a try.

I almost finished my study here in Bali, only one assignment left and there is still my assignment from the school back home. I am looking forward to be working on the assignment from school back home. I also created a projects page for this so please check that out on http://schaftenaar.com/projects/. Furthermore I updated http://schaftenaar.com and a lot more is to appear in the upcoming time. I am still busy with Arie.nl Werkkleding & Werkschoenen and Schaftenaar vd Heuvel Design also takes up more and more time these days.

I want to start writing more nonsense and thoughts so this log will no longer be a travel log only but a complete blog where I will post anything that interests me. Ok, but I think you guys also came to this place to see what I am doing far far away.

Let me start with last year when Eric & Luuk visited me. During that time I had a lot of classes and was really busy with presentations and more school stuff so I couldn´t spend as much time with them as I would have liked but none the less we had lots of fun. After they left it was time for Christmas and a break. This was a relaxed time because my class just finished final lectures and only had some assignments left. The entire class celebrated Christmas at the villa of the head professor with a very nice dinner and with Secret Santa. During the holiday I often went out and had lots of dinners, good meals in numerous locations. Our New Years celebration consisted again of dinner at a restaurant and after this party in a place called My Room. There was lots of alcohol The weather was pretty bad during midnight and luckily I was not at the beach as these people got soaking wet because of the rain. After “My Room” I went to several other places and around 6 a.m. me and some class mates called it a day and we went home by taxi.

Not only during New Years it rained. I recently moved to a new house because my old room was filled up with mold because of the raining season with too much rain. My new room is a lot smaller but I don´t have to share the house with that many people and as of next week I will have the crib for myself as my room mate will be moving out. With a cool crib also comes cool transportation and because my contract finished with the transport I had from school I went out and got myself a Honda Tiger. I never had the urge to drive motorbikes but I can only say now: it´s awesome.

My birthday was lots of fun. The night before I went out with some classmates and we celebrated it thoroughly until early in the morning. On my birthday I had dinner with Mena, Jan and Wenny. We had dinner at an Italian restaurant. To get to the restaurant we had to drive through the rain and the next day all of us were sick because we caught a cold.

I will be leaving Bali march the first and then will be traveling Singapore and Malaysia for three weeks. I might even go up as far as India but I am not sure about that yet. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Last week I have been to Jakarta with my class mate Jan. We went to see the shopping malls, shopping malls and even more shopping malls because somehow that is the only thing you can do in Jakarta. We also met with Sammy´s family where I stayed before. It was good to see them again and we had lots of fun. We had dinner at the NAMANAMA restaurant(I actually forget the name). This is an all you can eat place where for IDR 75.000 (€ 6,-) a person you have to prepare your own food. This was lots of fun and afterwards we were overfed.

The coming month I will be working on finishing my assignments. After that I will go and travel Singapore, Malaysia and maybe more and I hope to find a good location for writing my Bachelor thesis. I feel really exited about the last thing and I think I will have lots of fun doing this.

De afgelopen twee weken ben ik erg druk geweest met school. Sorry dat he zo lang duurde dat er weer iets op mijn blog kwam te staan.

Op school gaat het erg goed ook al is het goed doorwerken. Vorige week hadden we les van een Nederlandse leraar en vanaf maandag is het weer een Duitse. De dagen zien er ongeveer als volgt uit. Om 8:30 begint school en meestal tot een uurtje of 14:00 – 15:00 moeten we wel aanwezig zijn. Daarnaast is er meestal ook nog wel wat huiswerk te doen. Meestal is het een week les en een week tijd om aan je projecten te werken. Dit laatste is vooral veel verslagen schrijven.

Met iedereen van de klas kan ik wel goed opschieten en doe ook veel dingen samen. De laatste tijd is er alleen niet zoveel gebeurd. Idul Fitri(einde van de ramadan) heb ik bij Dominik zijn familie gevierd. Dit is een huisgenoot die half Balinees is. Hij had Jan(andere huisgenoot) en mij uitgenodigd. Dit was zeer relaxed eerste hebben we bij een oom gegeten en gedronken en daarna zijn we naar een andere oom gegaan om te zwemmen, drinken, donuts te eten en tv te kijken Bij een duitse hoteleigenaar hebben we nog een keer een feestje gehad. Dit was zeer leuk omdat er een zwembad was en goed eten en veel te drinken.

Het surfen wil nog niet echt lukken. Ik heb hier nog geen tijd voor vrij kunnen maken. Dit moet wel snel gebeuren want dit wil ik nog wel een beetje beter leren. Op de een of andere manier is er voor feestjes altijd wel tijd te vinden. Afgelopen woensdag was er Halloween en dat werd hier goed gepromoot voor de toeristen. We zijn met bijna alle klasgenoten de kroeg in geweest. Dit was een erg leuke avond

Vandaag ben ik met een aantal naar Ubud geweest. Dit is een stad waar veel cultuur en kunst te vinden is. Hier hebben we een wandeltocht gemaakt door de rijstvelden en zijn we wezen ‘vissen’ op “dragonflies’

Hier is het erg goed… Het is wel druk en in tegenstelling tot hoe het in Suriname was ben ik hier erg druk en heb de tijd gaat supersnel voorbij. (Het is ook nooit goed

Vorige week hadden we met school een excursie naar een eiland waar nog originele inwoners zijn tot zover dat hier in de buurt mogelijk is. Het eiland heet Nusa Penida en dit was een trip als voorbereiding op onze volgende opdracht namelijk 2 dagen meelopen met een zelfstandige ondernemer om te bekijken hoe hij aan zijn geld komt en hoe hij het uitgeeft. Ik ga zelf met een sate verkoper mee. Zo,n kerel met een houtenwagentje noemen ze hier kaki lima(5 poten). 3 voor de wagen en 2 van het mannetje. Denk dat dit wel leuk en vooral ook lekker gaat worden waarna ik een tijd geen sate meer hoef te zien.

Deze week zijn we even vrij om onze opdrachten te doen. Reden voor vakantie… Ik ben van plan om een paar dagen met een aantal mensen uit mijn huis naar Lombok te gaan. We zijn van plan om woensdag weg te gaan met de scooter de ferry te pakken en na een paar dagen weer terug te komen.

Zondag morgen ben ik naar het BKFT geweest. Nu weet ik niet weer precies waarvoor het staat maar het was een soort van verjaardagsfeest van de technische faculteit. Dit hield in met ongeveer 200 studenten door het drukke Denpasar lopen. Daarna was er eten en waren er optredens. Dit was erg leuk. en toen had ik de middag nog vrij want ze plannen hier de feesten op zondagochtend 6 uur s’ochtends

het is nu iets meer dan een week geleden dat ik in Bali ben aangekomen en tot nu toe bevalt alles nog steeds erg goed. De lessen waren de dag nadat ik aangekomen ben al begonnen dus de eerste paar dagen had ik nog wel een beetje last van het weinig slapen en moesten ze me een beetje met rust laten. De eerste week hebben we dus Bahasa Indonesia gehad en ik pakte dit toch wel weer redelijk snel op en ben nu ook druk bezig met het verbeteren ervan en ik kan toch al steeds beter “echte” gespreken voeren. Deze week zijn de management lessen begonnen. We moeten wel redelijk doorpakken om een beetje bij te blijven. Ik heb iedere dag van 8:30 tot 14:00 college en er wordt van ons verwacht dat we daarnaast minimaal 1,5 uur voor ons zelf werken(dit is ook echt wel nodig) Maar de lessen zijn leuk en aardige klasgenoten/huisgenoten. Het zijn allemaal Duitsers maar als in de klas en als ik in de buurt ben spreken ze Engels. Afgelopen weekend ben ik met een aantal van hun naar Tanah Lot geweest. Dit is een Balinese tempel. Hier heb ik me gewassen met heilig water en heb daar ook 3x wat van gedronken. Vorige week was onze hoofd professor Uwe Reihling ook aangekomen en hadden we een feestje in zijn Vila. Dit was erg leuk met lekker eten en vooral veel Bintang. Voor de rest ben ik nogal druk geweest met Arie.nl en met SHDesign en heb daardoor nog niet al teveel ondernomen naast werk en school tijd.

Na een weer een hele lange vlucht met meer dan 14 uur vertraging ben ik toch uiteindelijk aangekomen. Het voordeel van de vertraging was wel dat ik wat tijd over had om een nieuwe website te maken. TADA…. De vlucht van Quantas was afgelast en daarom ben ik via Hongkong gevlogen ipv Singapore. Ik werd van het vliegveld afgehaald en kreeg even snel wat uitleg over hoe het er allemaal aan toe ging. Ik kreeg tot mijn grote verbazing ook een scooter tot mijn beschikking. Toen heb ik even wat dingetjes gekocht en ben ik naar het strand gegaan waar het grootste deel van mijn nieuwe klas al was. Ik heb toen kennis gemaak (bijna allemaal duitsers) en de namen direct weer vergeten Na even wat gegeten te hebben ben ik met 3 huisgenoten in de taxi gestapt en zijn we uit geweest. De volgende ochtend begon de les al vroeg. We krijgen de eerste week les in de basis Bahasa Indonesia.
